Bellevue-area gymnasts competed at the 2A/3A District 2 gymnastics meet on Feb. 15 at Ballard High School. Sammamish finished second in the team competition (179.525) to qualify for state as a team. Lake Washington won the district meet with a team score of 183.
For the fourth straight year, Sammamish senior Sydney Griswold won the all-around competition with a score of 38.350. Griswold finished first on bars (9.650) and floor (9.625), and second on vault (9.725) and beam (9.350). Sammamish freshman Aiko Hirai finished first on vault with a 9.850 and teammate Micah Laughary was first on beam with a 9.400.
Interlake and Bellevue both had gymnasts make it to state as individual qualifiers. Bellevue’s Anna Littrell finished fourth on vault with a 9.150 to qualify for state. Interlake’s Monica Whalon also qualified for state on bars (8.2, finished 10th) and floor (9.150, finished ninth).
The state gymnastics meet runs from Feb. 20-22 at Sammamish High School.
