Confidence is one of the most important attributes of ensuring success on the golf course.
Mercer Island 2015 graduate Will Mansfield, who is in his sophomore season with the Bellevue College Bulldogs men’s golf team, said his two most prolific skills on the links consist of accuracy off the tee and precision on the greens.
“I hit a lot of fairways and I make a fair amount of putts. It’s really just having a belief in yourself,” Mansfield said. “I don’t think about the negative aspect. I’m just thinking about making the putt. Not every single one is going to go in but I believe every single one is going to go in. That is the most important part.”
Mansfield competed on the Occidental College (Division-III) golf team in Los Angeles during his freshman season before transferring to Bellevue College for his sophomore season. He said he has been part of the travel squad throughout the fall season.
“Obviously it is different up here playing in terrible weather. Our tournaments have been rainy and down there (Los Angeles) there is a lot more sun. Overall, it’s been good,” Mansfield said of his Bellevue experience. “I feel like I’m still improving as a player. I have been enjoying my time here.”
Recently the Bellevue Reporter had an opportunity to ask Mansfield a few questions about his life away from the golf course.
Bellevue Reporter: What is your favorite movie of all time?
Will Mansfield: I would probably say “Gladiator.” I have always liked Russell Crowe’s performance in it. It is a story of redemption.
BR: Who was your idol growing up?
WM: I didn’t ever really have one specific idol. I just tried to kind of follow my own path.
BR: Who was your favorite sports team growing up?
WM: The Seattle Mariners. I have always loved the Mariners even though they aren’t great.
BR: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?
WM: I would go with John F. Kennedy because I like politics.
BR: Who is your pick to win the presidential election this November?
WM: It will probably be Hillary Clinton. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out with the third party candidates, but I would probably say that Hillary Clinton comes out on top.
BR: How many text messages do you send per day?
WM: I text a lot of people. There is a lot of social stuff going on.
BR: What is your favorite dinner dish?
WM: I would probably go with spaghetti and meat sauce.
BR: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received and from whom?
WM: I have had multiple people tell me to just kind of follow your heart and be your own person. Don’t worry about what society is telling you to be.
