Mercer Island’s Quinn Sterling, who missed most of the year with a broken leg, scored a game-high 15 points as the Islanders captured the KingCo 3A tournament championship with a 53-48 win over Bellevue.
The Islanders (18-4) captured the No.1 seed from KingCo into the Sea-King 3A District Tournament, which begins play on Saturday.
The tournament features the top eight teams from Seattle’s Metro League and the top four KingCo teams.
Mercer Island, which had lost both previous matchups against Bellevue, started off the game with an 8-0 run in which Sterling hit two three-pointers.
Will Locke led Bellevue with 13 points and Nate Sikma added 12 for the Wolverines (17-5).
Bellevue hosts West Seattle (9-13) at 4 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the district tournament in a loser-out contest. The winner plays Rainier Beach on Tuesday.
