Knights win KingCo championship
The Newport Knights earned the Class 4A KingCo Championship with a 4-2 win against the Woodinville Falcons on May 14. Knights’ catcher Vinny Guinasso went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI. Newport ace pitcher Todd Reese allowed just three hits and two runs in seven innings of work. The Knights have won 13 consecutive games. Newport (20-2) will face Timberline in the first round of the Class 4A state tournament at 1 p.m. on May 23 at Art Wright Field in Kent.

Bellevue dominates KingCo meet
The Bellevue Wolverines boys track team captured first place at the Class 3A KingCo championships, tallying 126 team points. Juanita finished in second place with 94 points. Bellevue athletes capturing first place in their respective events consisted of Isaiah Gilchrist (400-meter dash), Sam Richmond (110-meter hurdles, long jump), Alex Hamilton (pole vault) and Tyson Penn (high jump, triple jump. The Bellevue 400-meter relay team of Jack Richmond, Benaiah Ellington, Gilchrist and Richmond cruised to a first place finish with a time of 42.99. Katherine Penner captured first place in the 800-meter run and the 1,600-meter run. Kennedy Wickham finished in first place in high jump. The Bellevue 1600-meter relay team consisting of Brenna Wapstra-Scott, Claire Wendle, Noelle Mitchell and Penner earned first place with a time of 4:05.17. Kennedy Wickham finished in first place in high jump as well.
Interlake trio nabs first place finishes in respective events
Interlake Saints speedster De’Jhion Parrish captured first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.23. Alex Doran nabbed first place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:22.70 and first place in the 3200 meters with a time of 9:42.14. Saints’ sophomore Sophie Oscar earned first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.29.
Newport’s Sliwoski earns second place in javelin
Newport Knights senior Julia Sliwoski nabbed second place in javelin with a toss of 117 feet, 8 inches. Foris Kuang earned third place in pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 6 inches. Kaitlin Yau captured second place in girls pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 6 inches.
