The Newport girls golf team finished third in the Class 4A state tournament, held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
The Knights scored 78.50 team points, coming up short to Lewis and Clark (80.00) and champion Bellarmine Prep (85.50).
KingCo 4A rival Redmond finished fourth with 72.50 points.
Freshman Isabel Chien finished tied for 10th for Newport, the highest finisher for the Knights. Chien shot a two-day total of 153. She shot a 75 on day one and a 78 on day two.
Nicole Lomax finished 19th (157) for Newport, which also saw Jamie Kirsila (162) tie for 25th. Jessica Kent finished 33rd (168) and Katie O’Neill (172) took 38th. All Newport state qualifiers made the cut after the first day.
Kevin Chien finished in a tie for 33rd on the boys side for Newport, shooting a two-day total of 159 at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick.
Bellevue’s Catelyn Webber finished tied for fifth in the 3A girls tournament at Horn Rapids Golf Club in Richland. Webber was tied for third after a day one 74, but shot a 78 on day two to finish with a total of 152 strokes. Alayna Herring of Sammamish shot a 163 to finish tied for 15th. Bellevue’s Arden Phillips finished 40th.
The Interlake boys finished second at the Class 2A tournament at Apple Tree Golf Resort in Yakima. Zach Buchanan and teammate Taylor Hallock tied for 15th for the Saints. Both shot a two-day total of 151. Patrick Sato (30th) and Andrew Kennedy (t-33rd) rounded out the Interlake finishers. Interlake totaled 68.50 team points, beaten out by Bellingham’s 83.
Jessica Parker finished tied for sixth on the girls side for Interlake. Parker shot a 78-81-159 as the Saints highest finisher. Ellen Howie shot a 201 to finish 35th.
Bellevue Christian’s Mackenzie Findlay tied for 9th and Sarah Andrews finished 20th at the girls 1A tournament at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland. Harrison Glassey finished tied for 10th in the boys tournament.
