Newport struggles; Bellevue stays hot against Liberty

Bothell’s stingy defense limited Richard Woodworth to 12 points, helping the Cougars stay relevant in the KingCo 4A Crown Division with a league win at Newport.

Bothell (7-7, 6-4 league) had three scorers in double figures as Devis Willis scored 15 and Mike Hartvigson and Kurt Stottlemyer each added 11.

The loss all but eliminates Newport (5-10, 3-8) from contention for the Crest Division with Garfield (9-0), Issaquah (7-3) and Redmond (6-3) all sitting above the Knights. Newport, a Sea-King district qualifier last season in 3A, has now lost three-straight games.
