Bellevue fell into an early 1-0 hole when Mercer Island’s David Lee found the back of the net off an assist from Jordan Morris in just the second minute of the game before ultimately falling 3-2 to Mercer Island on Tuesday at Bellevue High School.

Garrett Jackson scored the next two goals of the game for Bellevue, which were his first two of the season, to take a brief 2-1 lead before the Islanders took advantage of a mix-up off a corner kick to tie the game.

Neither team was able to regain their traction on offense in the second half and the game remained tied until the 62nd minute when Bellevue fell victim to an own goal, which proved to be the deciding score in the game.

As the Islanders held up their end of the bargain in Bellevue against the Wolverines, the Totems did likewise in the second installment of this year’s boys soccer Crossroads Cup, outlasting the Interlake Saints by a final score of 3-1.

Duada Sonah got his team on the board late in the first half before Interlake’s Chad Shapard tied the game in the 53rd minute.

But it was too much Totems in the following fifteen minutes, as Taylor Berg and Nick Rooney scored goals only a minute apart to secure the win.

Sammamish stays unbeaten on the year and will face the Islanders on Friday at Mercer Island with a shot to clinch the regular season league title and the state playoff berth that comes along with it.

Bellevue shuts out second straight league foe, wins big again

Emily Fleischman went six innings of three-hit, shutout softball and struck out seven batters for Bellevue in their 12-0 win over Lake Washington on Wednesday.

The Wolverines got on the board in the first when Katie Savard scored on a Lisa Bennett single and tacked on another in the second when Maddie Smith scored on a single from the pitcher Fleischman. Bellevue would add two more in the third before putting away all doubt with a five-run fourth inning that included hits from Savard, Bennett, Anjani Briggs, Taylor Cooke and a homerun from Kaitlyn Melby. Each of those came with two outs in the inning and chased Lake Washington starting pitcher Emilee Ronbeck.

Bellevue pounded out 16 total hits on the afternoon to back the dominating performance in the circle from Fleischman as the Wolverines won their third straight, including two consecutive shutouts.

Newport blanked by Eastlake
