Oregon State recruit Blake Gibbs blasted a two-run homerun in the fourth inning that made a 7-1 Newport lead seem insurmountable, as the Knights defeated Bellevue 11-2 at Bellevue High School on April 18.
It’s hard to believe that the spring season is already beginning to wind down with a race to the playoffs. It seems like only yesterday I was preparing my summer football previews, yet here we are only two weeks away from spring sport playoffs.

Since we aerated the greens this week at Bellevue Golf Course, let’s talk about why this has to be done. We do this twice per year, pull out the cores, shovel them off the green, and top-dress the green with sand to make it smooth again to putt on.

After essentially being suspended for the first seven practices of spring ball by Washington head football coach Tyrone Willingham, it appears Bellevue High graduates E.J. Savannah and J.R. Hasty are back with the team.
Thanks to a three-run fourth inning, the Totems staved off a late Interlake surge, and Sammamish defeated the Saints 4-3 to even up the season series at a game apiece.

Junior Jeff Melby hit a two-run homerun in the fifth inning to help break a 1-1 tie and pace Bellevue to a 6-1 victory against Interlake at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue on Wednesday, April 16.
With chants of “Save our Sonics” with a little “Clay Bennett sucks!” thrown in every once in awhile, the Sonics did their part in what could be the final game ever for the franchise in Seattle: win.

Brian Biccum, Sammamish soccer: Biccum scored both Totems goals in a 2-0 win against Liberty on April 11. Biccum has scored five goals in Sammamish’s last two games, both wins.

Hisayo Masuda hit a hole-in-one on April 8 at the Bellevue Municipal Golf Course. Masuda netted the 140-yard hole No. 3 with a 5-iron.
His curveball wasn’t working, so Newport pitcher Nate Eisenhauer went with a different approach: a steady diet of fastballs.
