Natty Plunkett, who helped the Newport girls cross country team to a 2007 state title, has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Female Athlete of the Year for her efforts on the Seattle Pacific University cross country team.
Plunkett helped the Falcons win its fourth-straight team championship. SPU, the No. 3 ranked team in the west region, beat Alaska Anchorage 48-52 during last Saturday’s conference meet in Naches, Wash.
Plunkett is the No. 3 runner for the Falcons and was the highest-finishing freshman in Saturday’s race, clocking a tie of 22:44.
She is the second Falcon to win the freshman award in the last three years. She also earned All-GNAC honors.
The Falcons next meet will be the West Regional, held at UC San Diego on Nov. 8.
