Newport earned wins in both boys and girls cross country and the Interlake volleyball team came back from a two-game deficit to get a victory over Lake Washington.

Volleyball

Bellevue used 17 kills and 13 assists from Jessie Marvin and 25 digs from Memie Huang to beat Liberty 3-2 (28-26, 13-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-5) in volleyball. Elise Berberoglu added 11 digs, three kills and an ace in the win.

Interlake also picked up a 3-2 win (16-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 16-14) over Lake Washington. Jackie Nelson had 11 kills, Carolyn Fordyce added ten more for the Saints while Alyssa Deardorff had 37 assists and Lauren Davis finished with 25 digs.

Cross country

Boys

Newport 30, Ballard 38, Bothell 54Grant Stein (16:53) and Chris Chamberland (17:08) finished in the top two spots as the Knights’ boys took the dual meet with Ballard and Bothell. Newport finished with a team score of 30, eight points ahead of the Beavers.

Mercer Island 23 Sammamish 33The Totems brought home the best individual finish of the day, but it wasn’t enough against a deeper Islanders’ squad.

Interlake 21 Juanita 40The Saints took three of the top five spots behind stellar performances from San Giner (16:59), Ivan Leinski (19:09) and Jay Taves (17:41).

Girls

Newport 32, Bothell 44, Ballard 60Jessica Spray brought home the best time of the day with a 20:10 to propel the Knights to the win. Allison Lee and Michelle Altizer also had top five finishes.
