Quest for sixth straight continues for Bellevue against Grizzlies | Prep football news

Bellevue continues its journey on the road to a sixth consecutive 3A state football title in the 3A state tournament against Glacier Peak.

Bellevue (10-0) VS. Glacier Peak (8-2), 7 p.m. Friday

Ferndale proved to pose little opposition to the five-time defending 3A state football champions last week, as Bellevue rolled to a 44-0 win over the Golden Eagles in the district playoffs.

Sam Richmond scored three times and brother Max added another in last week’s win.

The Grizzlies won 28-3 last week in the district playoffs over Wilson, but were dropped 59-20 by Marysville-Pilchuck the week prior and also lost to Bothell, 42-23. Since a 45-14 win over Shorecrest in early October, Glacier Peak is averaging just more than 22 points per game.

The two last met in the 2011 round of 32 and also faced off in 2009, both of those games resulting in Bellevue wins on the road to a state championship.

This group of Wolverines has yet to be tested en route to its 10-0 record, blasting 4A playoff teams Skyline (45-7) and Bothell (49-6) and allowing 3A KingCo foes no closer than 24 points in any game this year.

While the defense has not matched the statistically improbable greatness of last year’s unit, which allowed only a single touchdown to a Washington prep foe all season, Bellevue has surrendered only 14 points in the past three games combined and held state playoff contender Mount Si to only 13 points in the third lopsided win over the Wildcats in the past two seasons.

A win sends Bellevue to a quarterfinal game with either Bonney Lake or Peninsula, with a place in the Tacoma Dome and 3A state semi-finals on the line.
