Interlake 65 Evergreen 23
It’s a common sports cliche that a game cannot be won in the first period. The Interlake girls basketball team begs to differ.
With a 24-0 lead after the first quarter, the Saints cruised to a 65-23 victory with every participating player scoring.
“The defensive effort from the opening tip off really charged up the entire team,” Interlake head coach Scott Marcum said. “Our defense led to a lot of fast break opportunities and easy lay ins and our post players did a great job on the defensive boards throughout the game.”
Cassidy McDermott paced her team with 12 while Cate Mueler finished wtih 11. Kaeliegh Randolph, Emma Ostlund and Marta Mueller each finished with eight points.
“Overall it was a huge confidence boost for our entire team moving forward,” Marcum said. “I have to hand it to the Evergreen players and coaches. They never quit, regardless of the score.”
Eastlake 51 Newport 50
Newport held a three point lead going into the fourth quarter, but Eastlake rallied in the final period to escape with a 51-50 victory when Abby Carlson hit a pair of free throws with no time remaining to get the win.
The Knights looked primed to hold on before Carlson was fouled on a shot attempt from near mid-court.
Kendra Morrison led the way for the Wolves with 16 points and Abby Carlson chipped-in 12 more.
