Scores from the night's prep action and an update on a Sammamish grad headed to vie for an Indy Car Challenge title.

Sammamish grad vying for top spot at Indy Car Challenge

2010 Sammamish High School graduate Javier Cantu-Lucero will be one of 33 Indy Car drivers from around the country and as far away as Ecuador to compete in this weekend’s Skip Barber Racing School Indy Car Academy in Braselton, Ga.

Barber began racing at age 16 and has previously won the K-1 racing league and K-1 Speed in Redmond.

During his time at Sammamish, Cantu-Lucero was a member of the baseball, football and track and field teams for the Totems, throwing the javelin.

The Saints dominated the relays and got wins from Noah Davis, Alex Lorenz, Michael Lorr and Jason Xu to win going away against the Kangs.

More than half of the team’s 53 members have qualified for postseason competition, which begins with the KingCo Championship meet at the University of Washington’s Husky Pool.
