Seven area teams have qualified for the state tournament in various sports.
The Newport, Interlake and Bellevue Christian volleyball teams all reached their state tournaments with wins last weekend.
Newport lost to Issaquah in the KingCo 4A league championship game, but still clinched a spot in the 4A state tournament, held Nov. 11-12 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. The Knights (14-3) take on Graham Kapowsin in the first round of the double-elimination tournament. If the Knights win their 10:30 a.m. match, they’ll advance to play the winner of the Kentwood/Mead match.
Interlake advanced to the Class 2A state tournament by winning a loser-out game against Sumner in their district tournament. The Saints (12-9) beat Sumner 25-20, 25-27, 25-18, 17-25, 15-8 to clinch their berth.
The Saints will meet Pullman at 9:30 a.m. in the first round of the state tournament, also held at the Toyota Center Nov. 12-13. If they win their first game, they’ll play the winner of River Ridge/Burlington Edison.
Bellevue Christian (13-6) enters the Class 1A state tournament as the No.4 seed from their district following losses to King’s and Cedar Park Christian in the tri-district tournament. The Vikings play Castle Rock in their first round game at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 12. The Class 2A tournament is held the 12th and 13th at the Sundome in Yakima.
Interlake reached the Class 2A soccer tournament with a 3-0 win over Kingston on Saturday. Emma Bergstrom scored two goals and Danielle Brandli picked up two assists in the game. Ellen Howie also scored for Interlake (9-6-2) and Brenda Agus picked up the shutout.
The Saints will play Centrailia in their first round game tonight at home at 7 p.m.
Newport, Bellevue and Interlake all made their state tournaments in football.
The Knights (6-4) clinched a berth in the 4A state tournament by routing Kentlake 52-6 in their qualifying round game on Saturday. They play No.5 Chiawana (9-0) Saturday in Pasco at 2 p.m.
Bellevue, ranked No.1 in 3A, returned to the 3A state tournament with a 54-7 demolishing of Bainbridge. The Wolverines (9-1) will take on Timberline (7-3) in the first round. The date and that time has not been decided yet.
With a 3-8 record, the Interlake Saints qualified for the 2A state tournament for the third straight year by defeating Clover Park 54-35 on Saturday. The Saints will host Port Angeles (9-1) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Interlake running back Jordan Todd has scored 18 touchdowns in the Saints last three games.
