Olympic Gold Medalist coming to Issaquah to benefit cancer research

Washington Fencing Academy will host two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Mariel Zagunis as part of Fence for the Cure, which will benefit Susan G. Komen Quest for the Cure to help cure breast cancer.

The appearance by Zagunis will also include exhibition bouts, a meet and greet and one bout where every touch will earn money donations.

A mens and womens fencing tournament will begin at 10 am and Zagunis will arrive at 5 pm.

Washington Fencing Academy is located behind the Issaquah Hilton Garden Inn at 1470 19th Ave Northwest in Issaquah.

FirstSwing Foundation camp coming soon

Medina resident and long-time baseball instructor in the area Phil Rognier is hosting the ninth annual FirstSwing Youth Baseball Clinic at Kellogg Middle School in Shoreline. Former Atlanta Braves hitting coach and local product Don Long will be an instructor.

Rognier focuses on elements outside of baseball, such as proper dietary habits, fostering healthy relationships, maintaining a high academic standard and developing a dedicated work ethic during all of his camps. He also uses non-traditional but exciting and innovative methods for baseball teaching to keep youngsters engaged.

The camp will run from Saturday Nov. 19 to Sunday Nov. 20 from 9 am to 3 pm. Players may attend the full-day clinic or either the hitting or pitching sessions.
