Interlake Saints soccer player Arden Chew wasn’t afraid to sacrifice for his team during the district and state playoffs.
Chew, who played the majority of the 2015 season as the Saints center midfielder, made the switch to center defender for the postseason run. The move has paid dividends as the Saints defeated the Garfield Bulldogs 1-0 in the Class 3A state championship game on May 30 at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. Chew wasn’t surprised by his team’s immense success on the field this year.
“It has been nice to see how it all has come to fruition. It is really rewarding because this is a group of guys who have worked hard together for a long time,” Chew said. “We’ve been on some close rides (state tournament) and haven’t made it so it’s nice to see it all pay off in the end this year.”
Chew credited longtime Interlake head coach Dan Peterson for the cohesion and camaraderie exhibited by the Saints.
“It is great playing for coach Peterson because he is not only a coach but he is a really close friend,” he said. “He is always looking out for you as player, student and person. It’s nice to know somebody has got your back like that.”
Recently the Bellevue Reporter had an opportunity to ask Chew a few questions about his life away from the soccer field.
