The track and field season is nearly halfway through and the Reporter takes a look at the local district leaders.
In 3A, Bellevue’s Bishard Baker has the sixth fastest mark in the 100 meters at 11.08 seconds and is third in the 200 meters at 22.55.
Teammate Woody Butler currently holds the state’s top time in the 400 meters at 50.78 and is joined on the top-10 list by Myles Jack, who has the fifth best time at 51.88.
Will Sheeran and Graham Wendle both make the list in the 800 meters, where Sheeran has the district’s fastest time at 1:56.70 and Wendle is seventh at 2:02.70. Sheeran is also second fastest in the 1,600 meters and is followed by John Fowler at 4:24.70. Spike Sievert is ninth at 4:32.90.
Fowler leads the pack in the 3,200 meters at 9:28.20 with Sheeran and Kyle Pratt also in the top-10.
Sam Richmond has the 10th fastest time in the 110 meter hurdles at 17.34 and teams with Baker, Jack and Reuben Mwehla to form the second fastest 400 meter relay team thus far.
It is Wendle, Sheeran, Butler and Jack on the 1,600 meter relay team, which is currently second best in the district behind only conference foe Liberty.
In the field events, Mike Kneip has the best shot put mark thus far at 50 feet 3 inches and is followed closely by Mitchell Stuart at 49-4. Jake Eldrenkamp is tied for fourth in the event.
Kneip also has the fourth best discus mark on the year.
Matt Gilbert will try to get back to state in the javelin throw and currently holds the second best toss in District 2 at 187-8.
Richmond is also in the top-10 in the event. Blake Erickson is third in the pole vault at 12-6 and Baker is third in the long jump to round things out for Bellevue on the boys side.
Nick Martin of Sammamish has the eighth best time in the 1,600 meters at 4:32.80 and is also eighth in the 3,200 meters at 9:43.55.
Neal Buckles is tied for the sixth best time in the 110 meter hurdles at 16.74.
Andrew Engles, Jamis Moy, Justin Tundrea and John Steinberg currently hold a top-10 time in the 400 meter relay and Aidan Hunt, Edmond Wai, Hank Tea and Alex Marvick are tied for seventh in the 1,600 meter relay.
On the girls side, Julia Ellings is ninth in the 800 meters at 2:25.45 and eighth in the 1,600 at 5:27.39.
Floraine Kameni is second in the triple jump behind only Juanita’s Alanna Coker. Ayane Rossano and Michelle Louie both have top-10 district marks in the pole vault for Bellevue.
Pascale De Sa E Silva is 10th for Sammamish in the 1,600 meters at 5:31.22 and sixth in the 3,200 at 12:00.9. She is joined by Teagan Whiteley, Marissa Therriault and Laynee Viniotis for the 10th fastest 400 meter relay squad in District 2.Therriault is also ninth in the long jump.
Aya Mears is currently tied for sixth in the high jump for the Totems.
In 4A, Newport’s James Whiteside is seventh fastest in the 300 meter hurdles at 44.34 seconds. The Knights’ 400 meter relay team of Jonathan Luu, Luke Nakagawa, Tyler Vandenburgh and Jason Yan is eighth best at 45.34.
Grant Stein joins Nicholas Taylor, Erik Gabel and Whiteside for the ninth fastest 400 meter relay team in District 2.
Chris Halamek is 10th in the shot put and seventh in the discus and Nakagawa is 10th in the javelin.
Will Chang is tied for sixth in the high jump and Whiteside, Emmanuel Davis, Matt Toles and Zedekiah Walter are all on the high jump list.
Peter Delbrueck has the sixth best mark in the pole vault while Jonathan and Brandon Luu both make the list in the long jump, joined by teammate Christopher Wu.
Wu and Brandon Luu also make the list in the triple jump.
On the girls side, Alisa Poplawski is eighth in the 800 meters and Jessica Spray is in the same spot in the 3,200.
Melody Blake, Braeden Small, Emily Idemoto and Charcel Wafer form the 10th fastest 400 meter relay team and Idemoto is replaced by Candace Ho in the 800 meter relay, where the Knights are fifth. Small and Poplawski are joined by Sarah Strozyk and Ardita Adili in the 1,600 meter relay, where Newport in eighth.
Wafer and Aiyana Homer make the list in the shot put and Justina Grubb is fourth in the discus for Newport.
Julia Sliwoski and Kara Reichenbach are both on the list in the javelin and Ho rounds out the field with a second place mark in the pole vault.
For Interlake, Jordan Todd has the second best mark in the 100 meters in all of 2A at 10.94 and Ivan Leniski is ninth in the 800 meters and 10th in the 3,200. Sam Giner is ninth in the 3,200.
Joseph Bell, Todd, Evan Turman and Ryan Turman are ninth fastest in the 400 meter relay.
Ryuji Kawashima has the second best mark in the state in the pole vault after making the state meet last year.
On the girls side, Summer Hanson is sixth in the 400 meters and leads the state in the 800 at 2:16.64. Antoinette Tansley is seventh in the event.
Niki Waghani is currently fifth in the 1,600 meters.
