The 2008 WIAA state championships for volleyball, girls soccer and 1B/2B boys soccer concluded at various site’s across the state Nov. 21 and 22, making football the only sport still playing in Washington.
The Class 4A, 3A and 2A volleyball tournaments took place last weekend in Kennewick with Lewis and Clark of Spokane taking the Class 4A title, defeating Kamiakin of Kennewick 25-12, 25-20, 25-22 to earn its third state title and breaking its championship losing streak. The Tigers had been beaten by rival Mead of Spokane the past two seasons in the title game.
Shadle Park of Spokane knocked off Eastside Catholic 25-18, 25-16, 25-19 in the Class 3A championship game. The Crusaders, who lost the 2003 championship match to Seattle Prep, was seeking its first title. It was Shadle Park’s fifth state title.
Other champions included Tumwater, which won the Class 2A title, King’s (1A), Colfax (2B) and Lacrosse-Washtucna (1B).
The Class 4A, 3A and 2A soccer state championships were played in Lakewood at Harry Lang Stadium last weekend, while the 1A, 2B and 1B games were played at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner. Skyline beat fellow KingCo 4A foe Woodinville 2-1 to win the Class 4A title, while Everett won its first state title with a win over Seattle Prep in the Class 3A title game. Fife repeated as the Class 2A champion with a 1-0 win over Cedarcrest of Duvall.
Seattle Academy took the 1A title, La Salle won the 1B/2B girls championship and Tacoma Baptist won the 1B/2B boys championship.
