Bellevue picked up wins in both boys and girls lacrosse

Boys lacrosse

Bellevue 20 Lake Washington 1

Bellevue’s Cole Johnson and Blake Samuel both put in five goals as the Wolverines dominated the season opener against Lake Washington, 20-1.

Hank Bethke added three goals for Bellevue, which next faces Lake Tapps on Friday at 8 p.m. at Pete’s Pool Stadium.

Girls lacrosse

Mercer Island 18 Bellevue East 17

BELAX fell in its first game of the season despite five goals from both Kayla Miller and Camille Sullivan. Bellevue East will meet Ballard on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Ballard High School.

Bellevue 24 Evergreen 8

Bellevue’s Jennie Monfried finished with a game high eight goals and the Wolverines led 15-6 at the break in route to a second straight win.

Bellevue has opened the season with a pair of wins after finishing 2011 winless.

Boys soccer

Hazen 1 Interlake 5

The Saints stormed to the win behind a hat trick from Chad Shapard and four assists from Nick Roth.

Shapard struck in the second minute from Roth before added goals in the 24th and 35th minutes.

Roth tallied assists on two of Shapard’s goals as well as two other Interlake scoring strikes.

Newport picked up a pair of wins, 4-2 over Juanita and 6-3 over Inglemoor after dropping the season opener 1-0 to Eastside Catholic.

Jordon Thompson netted a hat trick in the win over the Rebels and scored four more goals to help his team to the win over Inglemoor.

“The team is looking great,” new head coach Kirk Tavener said. “They are really starting to come together as a team.”
