Bellevue’s boys water polo team will have a chance to defend its two straight state titles, after winning a pair of games in pool play at the state tournament.
The Wolverines defeated Enumclaw 19-6 in the opener at state before coming back with a 22-11 win over Auburn Mountainview to earn their spot in the quarterfinals.
Bellevue finished the regular season with a pair of wins, 12-8 over Roosevelt and 16-6 against Puyallup behind four George French goals.
A total of 12 teams began the state water polo tournament, with the Wolverines seeded in the top spot, just in front of rival Mercer Island, Curtis and the Roughriders.
The top two teams in each of the three-team pods moves to the loser-out quarterfinals Friday, where Bellevue will face Bainbridge Island.
