Former Bellevue resident Libby Ludlow will be featured in the opening ceremony of the 2011 Buddy Werner Championship (BWC) alpine ski competition at Stevens Pass this weekend.

The BWC race features 255 boys and girls representing 23 ski clubs from Washington, Oregon and Idaho in the Pacific Northwest Ski Association (PNSA). It is the largest race of its kind in the United States and is sanctioned by USSA for youth ski racers.

Ludlow was the Overall Combined Winner of the 1994 PNSA Buddy Werner Championship, going on to compete in the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.

The races will occur on March 12 and 13, with Giant Slalom and Slalom events for both the boys and girls on runs accessed by the Kehr’s Chair. On Saturday night, March 12, there will be an athlete banquet to recognize all the racers and their accomplishments. On March 13, at the conclusion of the two day competition, an awards ceremony will be held to present awards to the top individuals and teams.

Competitor lists, team names and representative athlete action photos available upon request.
